Printer Cartridges Banned On All Canadian Flights
Transport Minister Chuck Strahl announced the new rules shortly after the U.S. Transportation Security Administration said it was banning “high-risk cargo” on passenger aircrafts after cartridges packed with explosives were recently intercepted en route from Yemen to the U.S.
Transport Minister Chuck Strahl announced the new rules shortly after the U.S. Transportation Security Administration said it was banning “high-risk cargo” on passenger aircrafts after cartridges packed with explosives were recently intercepted en route from Yemen to the U.S.
The new measures, which take effect immediately, mean travellers won’t be able to check or carry office-sized toner cartridges (those weighing more than 454 grams).
Passengers will be able to check small cartridges in their luggage, but won’t be able to pack them in carry-on bags on U.S.-bound flights.
Although the explosive packages were not intended for Canada, Strahl said the new measures were necessary to assure Canadians they are safe.
“There is a concern right now that they (toner cartridges) will be used by terrorist or could be used again,†he said.
