Brinnngggg brinnngggg…

‘Hello.”

“Mr President, Chris Carrington of The Daily Sheeple. I wonder, could I ask your opinion on the murder of Antonio Santiago?”

“Who?”

“Antonio Santiago Sir. I know you’re interested in the murder of young people, you empathise, you can imagine how you would feel to be the parent of that child. Like you did when Trayvon Martin was shot. I wondered what your thoughts were on the Antonio Santiago case.”

“Er, um, could you give me a hint? I hear so many names…I just can’t quite place the name.”

“Of course Mr President. Antonio Santiago was shot dead on March 14th of this year, his mother was wounded, she was shot in the leg and another bullet grazed her ear.”

“Er, no…sorry…I’m not sure…er, anything else that makes the case stand out? There are so many cases where young people are killed when their parents are, er, well…doing stuff they shouldn’t be.”

“She was walking back from the post office Mr President.”

“Ah, right.”

“Two teenagers tried to rob her and when she had no money they shot her, then they walked to the front of the stroller and shot her 13 month old son in the face.”

“That’s terrible.”

“Yes it is Sir. Do you have any comment to make regarding the babys alleged killers, 17 year old De’Marquis Elkins and 15 year old Dominique Lang?”

“Comments?”

“Yes Sir. Like do you think the outcome of the trial of two black teenagers will be different because they shot a white baby?”

“Now you hold on a minute, they haven’t been found guilty yet, you can’t go around accusing people of murder…it could be self-defense, or the gun may have gone off accidentally.”

“Antonio was 13 months old Mr President and he was strapped in a stroller, it’s unlikely he was a threat to them Sir.”

“Wait, hold on…mutter, mumble, yeah, good okay. Ahem. Right. Yes. I remember this case. The parents did it. They had gunshot residue on their hands.”

“So you are saying the parents did it or you allege the parents did it? I just want to be clear on this, Sir.”

“Tests showed it, they had residue on them. They did it.”

“I don’t think any conclusions can be drawn from that at this point. I am sure there will be a full and fair investigation into all the facts. I’m sure you agree that law enforcement is unbiased and that justice will prevail.”

“I can see no reason at all why two black teenagers would shoot a white baby in the face. They will be blamed of course, nobody will give a damn that they were desperate, that they were probably trying to provide for their poor aged grandmother.”

“They were trying to rob his mother Sir.”

“I’m pretty sure there will be a good explanation. As I said, they were probably trying to help their family…times are hard.”

“But he was just a baby. There can be no justification whoever did it, no reason would be good enough. Surely you will go on record saying that.”

“I can’t comment, I don’t know all the facts of the case.”

“One more question Sir, I know you are busy and have a country to run so I’ll be brief. ”

“I’d be grateful, My wife and I have vacation plans we need to discuss.”

“Would you feel more able to comment if Antonio had been a black baby and his alleged killers had been white?”

“I AM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. ARE YOU ACCUSING ME OF RACISM?”

“Not at all Mr President, I was just wondering what your opinions were on the brutal murder of a 13 month old baby.”

“I have no further comment to make, but I’ll tell you one thing Corrigan you’d better watch your step.”

“Carrington Sir. Thank you for you time.”

(Note: The above conversation is fictitious.)

Author’s note:

I find it hard to believe that there has been no comment on the murder of Antonio Santiago. Regardless of who killed him, and the reasons why he was murdered, surely if the Zimmerman-Martin case merited Presidential comment then so did this.

To shoot a baby in the face while he is strapped in his stroller has to be one of the most heinous acts a person can commit yet this child’s death went unnoticed by the majority of the population and received no comment from the President.

It does make me wonder what the reaction would be if white celebrities decided to join us everyday folks to protest, sporting their ‘Justice for Antonio” tee shirts. Would they be arrested? Would they be branded racists? We will most likely never know.

As I said in a previous article, the President should be for all the people of the United States. To stand up and comment on a particular case indicates an interest in that case, a case that happened to be a black kid getting shot by a non-black shooter.

The lack of comment of black on black killings, white on white killings or any other combination of killer and victim makes Obama look biased and prejudiced. Many already suspected he was, but it’s unprecedented for the President of the United States to hand his critics the proof on a plate.
