President Obama sends US troops to Iraq

Iraq

By Michael Becker

The situation in Iraq is deteriorating daily. Actually, it’s going to hell in a handcart.

On Sunday, The United States announced that some staff was being evacuated immediately, largely due to the impending threat of Al Qaeda splinter group ISIL’s (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) assault on Baghdad.

[…]

An Iraqi tribal spokesman told Al Arabiya that ISIL troops have started their march towards Baghdad. In addition, there are several unconfirmed reports that the Baghdad airport is sustaining heavy fire from ISIL militants.

ISIL holds three major cities in Iraq including Mosul and Fallujah and over 500,000 refugees are trying to get away from the advancing ISIL terrorist army.

The leader of ISIL is none other than Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a terrorist who was held by the US in Camp Bucca in Iraq before he was released in 2009.  As he walked out of the detention camp, he turned to the camp commander and said, “I’ll see you guys in New York.”  Right now it looks like he’s on his way to New York after a brief stop for some butchery in Baghdad.

President Obama is taking strong action based on the humanitarian crisis prompted by hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the terrorists and the certainty of slaughter in Baghdad.  Apparently, the first thing he did was turn to our allies, and he’s being supported in that effort by Lindsay Graham.

Iran sent 2,000 troops, including 1,500 Quds special forces, in order to support the Shia-led Maliki Iraqi government in Baghdad. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC)  said the US may need to enlist the help of the Iranians. “We are probably going to need their help to hold Baghdad,” he said.

Obama’s allies in Iran have been mohamed-on-the-spot with help trying to get a deal brokered between Hamas and Israel, sending in advanced rockets to help Hamas push back the Israeli occupying force in Gaza and the West Bank.  Their help in Iraq, a country they’ve been long allied with until the US intervention under the Bush administrations.

The President is also sending US troops.

To further secure the [US] diplomatic post, the [President Obama] sent an additional 150 Marines to the embassy.  “A small number of DOD (Department of Defense) personnel are augmenting State Department security assets in Benghazi Baghdad to help ensure the safety of our facilities,” said a Pentagon spokesman.

Given the record of this administration, and especially the Department of State, when it comes to protecting US personnel in harm’s way, we have every confidence that we’ll be seeing a rerun of this in the not too distant future.

And Mike, let’s be clear, those weren’t “Iranian students,” they were terrorists.  They held Americans hostage for 444 days under the watchful eye of President Jimmy Carter.  Unfortunately, there are 949 days left in President Barack Obama’s term.

On a serious note, our prayers go with the families of the US personnel currently in Iraq, especially the Marines and security personnel and their families. We understand what it’s like to have family in harm’s way, although our Marine had the privilege of serving under a Commander-in-Chief who took his role seriously.

We’re pretty sure this isn’t going to end well.
