‘Pray For Obama’ Sign Draws Secret Service Attention

By Tim Brown

It’s truly amazing what our country has come to. In the spirit of 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Milton Neitsch Jr. of Victoria, Texas, put up a sign that reads “Pray For Obama Psalm 109:8.” Apparently the sign has raised the eyebrows of the Secret Service.

First let me point out what I mean by the “spirit of 1 Timothy 2:1-2. The passage reads,

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

Paul’s admonishment was to pray for men in positions of leadership because it was good and acceptable in the sight of God, according to verse three. It also was in order that we might lead a quiet and peaceable life in godliness and reverance.

No doubt this was in the mind of Mr. Neitsch when he put the sign up. Christians should pray for their leaders, even those they don’t like, but it was the passage that Neitsch put up that has the Secret Service looking into matters.

Psalms 109:8 reads,

“Let his days be few, and let another take his office.”

While the text is interpreted in the New Testament and applied to Judas Iscariot (Acts 1:20), Mr. Neitsch simply wanted people to pray for Obama and also pray that God would replace him come November.

KENS5 reports,

But some people say it is hateful and inappropriate. They say it misuses the holy scripture and it must come down.

Neitsch recently received an email from a friend and decided to post it on his advertising billboard along North Navarro Street. He had no idea the firestorm of controversy it would create.

“Pray for the president. He needs it,” said Neitsch.

When asked what the sign means, Neitsch responded, “Exactly what it says. Hope he’s gone soon and somebody different takes his place.”

A liberal “pastor,” and I use the term very, very lightly, started a petition demanding the sign be taken down. The reason I point out the liberal “pastor” is that she is a woman, Amy Danchik. The Scriptures are clear about who pastors are to be and they don’t include women in that position.

However, after meeting with Neitsch they both agreed to replace the sign. Mr. Neitsch and his family have received threats, which Danchik denouced and said were “incredibly inappropriate, and in no way helpful and in no way how we’re called to react when we disagree with somebody.”

Well, I would ask Ms. Danchik if she can point to where the way she has handled things with a petition is given permission in the Scriptures. On top of that, I’d like to know where she is even to be in position of authority in a church. 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 are clear about women in the role of an elder or bishop in the church. On top of that, she is wanting a display of what God has said His people should do to come down all because of her “feelings.”

Liberals are long on “feelings” and short on substance. Danchik proves this.

The Code enforcement of the City of Victoria does not review content of signs. They will only become involved if it affects the flow of traffic.

My advice to Mr. Neitsch is to leave the sign up. Honor God, not a liberal.
