Sunspot AR1877 has thrown off an M9 flare causing a radio blackout on the sunlit side of the planet. The flare, at 00.30 UT, generated a flash of extreme UV radiation which ionized the earths upper atmosphere.
Sunspot AR1875 is now directly Earth facing and still harbors the energy for both M and X class flares.
Todays sunspot number is 141 and NOAA estimates the chance of further flares during the next 24-48 hours as 40% for M-class and 0.5% for X-class.
