‘Pay Us’: Black Women Request Payment For Helping Doug Jones Win Alabama Election
People are now directly demanding that Americans pay black women for voting against Republican Roy Moore.
“Black women” became one of the top trending topics on Twitter throughout the night on Tuesday and into the morning after exit polls showed 97% of black women voted for Democrat Doug Jones in the Alabama Senate special election.
Nearly all the most popular tweets had one thing in common: demands for payment.
Thank black women by supporting black women. Pay us. Vote with us. Hire us. Read our writing. Fund our projects and ministries. Vote us into office. Purchase from our businesses. Amplify us. Stand against racism and sexism.

Pay Black Women— Shameka the Writer–Eagles 11-2 (@ShamekaErby) December 13, 2017
“Thank you Black women.”
This isn’t a gift, it’s a loan.
Start paying us back by stepping up when publications and miscellaneous folks find a way to dump on us.
And yes, they’ll find a way.
Yup. Still.

If you are thanking the black women of Alabama tonight for defeating Roy Moore
maybe tomorrow you can start thinking about how to repay them

the moral of the story has always been pay, elect, and listen to black women

A few ways to show your gratitude to black women since we’re expressing so much thanks:
– Hire black women
– Invest in black women
– Listen to black women
– Give up your power for black women
– Put black women in positions of power— Michael Richardson (@IamMikeRich) December 13, 2017
For non-Black folks praising Black women in tonight’s election – do more. Support Black women. Stand up for Black women. Hire Black women. Vote for Black women.

Like this whole “black women saved us” thing is TRUE, but bLACK WOMEN SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SAVE YOU. BLACK WOMEN CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENTIRE ELECTIONS. BLACK WOMEN ARE NOT MULES.

I see the tweets already flying about Black women and voters saving the day and carrying the load tonight.
Those are true statements.
So when do we start demanding a return on that investment?

White liberal Molly Knight joined on the trending topic and was chided for it in the comments:
What if we just let black women run everything
— Molly Knight (@molly_knight) December 13, 2017
Hi Molly, your heart is in the right place but today is black women’s day. Please don’t jump on this hashtag and push your voice to the front of the queue. Your blue tick and followers give you privilege on here that will usurp the voices of everyday #BlackWomen

Ashleigh Shackelford was criticized last year for delivering a lecture to white allies where she said “all white people are racist” and requested they deposit cash into her PayPal account, but clearly she was just ahead of her time.
This is the future of the Democratic Party!
