Obama Compares Himself to Lincoln, but Snubs 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg Address

Hopefully the president’s next brazen attempt to shamelessly liken himself to Lincoln for political gain will be enough to see all those true believers through these hard times.

Obama Compares Himself to Lincoln, but Snubs 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg Address

For some reason, President Barack Obama has been compared to President Lincoln over and over…and over. You’ve seen reporters compare President Obama to Lincoln too many times. NBC News correspondent Kevin Tibbles even said it was not a coincidence that the release of the Steven Spielberg movie ‘Lincoln’ came the same week Barack Obama was re-elected (although Breitbart’s Warner Todd Huston responded with, “But to compare Lincoln’s turbulent times to Obama’s is the most idiotic, partisan blather that can be imagined.”)

Maybe the comparisons keep coming because the president himself has, of course, made the comparison numerous times every since he announced his first bid for the presidency, although he has more recently tried to deny ever doing so.

Type “Obama Lincoln” into a Google Image search, and you’ll find a plethora of pictures like this:

(Okay, that last one I just added for fun.)

Artist Ron English even put up street art melding Obama and Lincoln’s faces together in a rainbow; there’s a movie coming out about it soon, and there’s even a website dedicated to it —  abrahamobama.net — if you’re at all inclined.

So, it’s sadly ironic that I must inform all those Abraham Obama Barack Lincoln true believers that the president will not be traveling the 187 kilometers it would require him to attend the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s immortal address at Gettysburg next week.

In fact, he’s sending Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.

The people of Gettysburg are reportedly quite upset:

Officials in the rural town are doing their best to put on a brave face — especially after rumours over the past year had indicated Mr. Obama would be there.

“I thought he was going to come,” Bill Troxell, Gettysburg’s 86-year-old mayor, told ABC News. “From every bit of information I had, I expected him to be here.”

But the White House recently announced Mr. Obama would not be coming, without giving any reason.

Residents feel it is a mistake and he should be there next Tuesday.

“I would just leave it at we are all very disappointed.”

In a country supposedly by, for and of the people, Obama — the man “from” the “Land of Lincoln” — couldn’t even be bothered to schlep the relatively short distance over to Gettysburg to pay tribute to one of the nation’s greatest speeches and continue pandering to his naive followers for one more cheesy photo op.

Hopefully the president’s next brazen attempt to shamelessly liken himself to Lincoln for political gain will be enough to see everyone through these hard times.
