Naked Nuisances: 14 People Who Behaved Badly While in the Buff

There are several headlines in the news this month that have one disturbing thing in common: naked people doing bizarre things.

A few days ago, we wrote about a Naked Florida Man named Andrew Humphries who was found stumbling down the side of a Florida highway after he was involved in a car accident.

Believe it or not, Humphries is not the only person this month who was caught doing strange things while absolutely, shamelessly, stark naked.

Here are 14 additional cases.

On June 14, a Connecticut man was arrested for going on a rampage inside an antiques store.

Officers in Putnam responded to the Antiques Marketplace around 12:30 a.m. after reports of suspicious activity, according to the Associated Press.

When police arrived, they found glass on the sidewalk outside the store and saw that some of the windows were broken.

Inside, they found “a completely naked Sean Morissette,” who was “knocking over display cases and smashing items inside the marketplace,” police said.

Morissette was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.

A naked man was arrested Monday evening after trying to steal a woman’s car outside a South Lake Tahoe convenience store, according to police.

The Sacramento Bee reports that a 22-year-old woman was leaving the 7-Eleven at 3923 Pioneer Trail when she saw a naked man walking across the street who seemed to be trying to make eye contact with her, according to a department news release.

She ran to her white BMW and attempted to lock herself in, but the man – Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 29 – opened the door. He pulled on her hair and clothing in an apparent attempt to get her out of her car. She resisted, and he tried to steal the car with her in it.

Bystanders were able to pull Cobos-Martinez out of the car. He ran across the street to his hotel room, where officers located and arrested him.

Cobos-Martinez was arrested for carjacking and false imprisonment and was booked into the El Dorado County Jail.

A man who allegedly stole his girlfriend’s pickup truck was arrested in Texas on Tuesday.

Officers spotted the truck on Hwy. 80 in Sunnyvale around 8:30 a.m. and pulled it over.  The man refused to surrender to police for several hours. When he finally emerged from the truck, he appeared to be naked or nearly naked and was holding up something white. He got down on the pavement and was quickly taken into custody, reports Fox 4.

It appears that naked folks sneaking into people’s residences isn’t as uncommon as we’d like to think. In the last few weeks, several incidents involving naked people showing up in the wrong home have been reported.

On June 2, NBC 4 reported that police were searching for a man who tried to break into a Maryland home while in the nude.

Surveillance video shows a naked man walking around a home in Bethesda shortly after midnight on May 17. The suspect peeked into windows and tried to open a door to get into the house, police said. He fled when a motion light came on outside.

The homeowner, who does not want to be identified, said, “Certainly a bizarre situation. At least, and at most, it’s alarming.”

On June 5, a man in Orem, Utah, woke up at 5:30 am to get ready for work and found Seth Main – his neighbor – in his bedroom…wearing nothing but his birthday suit.

Fox 13 reports that authorities took Main to a local hospital to find out if he was under the influence of some kind of drug. Additional information on this case has not been reported.

June 7 was a particularly busy day for naked intruders…

A man was arrested on June 7 after he was found naked in a teenager’s bed in Brockton, Massachusetts.

“I was in my room watching TV, and there was a guy climbing on my window,” said Arianna Soares. “He asked if somebody named Cheryl lived here, I told him no.”

Soares said she figured she scared the man off, but a little later, she heard an upstairs neighbor shouting.

Police say he was found in a teen’s bed on the second floor and he was touching himself.

Levy Laurent – the 34-year-old suspect – got dressed and left after being yelled at, according to investigators. But people in the home kept an eye on him as he wandered the neighborhood until police arrived and arrested him. Laurent is facing charges of indecent exposure and breaking and entering, reports NECN.

“I think it’s terrible,” said Soares. “You shouldn’t be able to just walk into people’s houses and think it’s OK to lay in somebody’s bed naked.”

Also on June 7…a San Diego resident woke up to find a naked man in his room. The man confronted the intruder, who then left the apartment. By the time police arrived, the naked man was asleep on the sidewalk…wearing nothing but a pair of socks. Police said he had a cocaine pipe tucked into one sock. Various bits of property and trash were strewn around near the man, who had a backpack that contained other people’s IDs and credit cards.

A woman in Kenosha, Wisconsin, called to report a man (later identified as Tyler Vesterfelt, 24) standing outside of her small child’s window at 3 am on June 7. The officer who responded to her call noticed a window screen pulled off a neighboring apartment.

The resident said the window with the damaged screen was in a 15-year-old girl’s bedroom. As the officer waited in a hallway, the apartment resident went into the room and talked to the girl, who was under the covers of her bed. She said she had not heard anything.

The apartment resident left the room, but shortly thereafter he walked back into the teen’s room and, according to the complaint, the officer heard the man yell “Who the (expletive) are you?” and “Get the (expletive) out of my house.”

The officer went back into the room and found the 15-year-old lying on her bed wrapped in a comforter, while a man later identified as Vesterfelt was lying on the other side of the bed wrapped in a separate comforter. When the officer escorted Vesterfelt out of the room, he found that the man was naked under the comforter.

Vesterfelt was charged with sexual assault of a child under the age of 16.

Also last week…a man who was believed to be high on PCP was arrested after getting into multiple car crashes, then fondling himself while naked at a 7-Eleven store in Hartford, Connecticut.

The man was chased by police after he caused several minor car accidents. He was apprehended in the 7-Eleven parking lot while standing naked on top of a gray car with Connecticut plates, according to NBC 4.

On June 5, police in Ashburn, Virginia, arrested a naked man after he was jumping onto vehicles and assaulted a sheriff’s deputy.

WJLA reports:

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office say they were called to the 2100 block of Ashburn Road at around 10:16 p.m. for a report of a man laying in the road and then jumping onto vehicles. Deputies got to the scene and say they found the man, later identified as David Mendoza, 18, of Ashburn, “unclothed.”

Naked Man sightings are not limited to the United States…

A stark naked man recently wandered around a petrol station in Pyatigorsk, Russia, and amused onlookers recorded the bizarre incident.

The nude middle-aged man was caught on camera strolling around the station, apparently at ease with the fact he has no clothes on.

He could be seen looking at the pumps for a while before picking two hoses up and pretending to be one of the station’s employees.

One onlooker can be heard saying: “Looks like he will start filling up the cars!”

On June 8, a man was arrested in Peterborough (a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, England) after strolling down the street wearing nothing but a pair of shoes while punching through car windows with his bare hands.

Residents captured and restrained the man until police arrived on the scene. The naked man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage to property, reports the Peterborough Telegraph.

So, what is it that compels some people to commit crime while in the buff?

Is it that it is easier to participate in mischief and disturbing activities without clothing? Do pants and shirts and other garments somehow get in the way? Is expecting these people to at least wear underwear or shorts too much to ask?

Sometimes, drug use is a factor.

And, unfortunately, in some cases, mental health issues are the culprit.

On June 14, a California real estate agent was charged with murder after authorities say she randomly entered a Cupertino woman’s home and killed her with a hammer during an apparent mental breakdown, reports The Mercury News. Suzanne Hernandez, 39, was placed on a mental-health hold by deputies responding to reports of her running naked down a busy commercial center off Stevens Creek Boulevard, not far from victim Mary Willson’s home. Hernandez confessed to the murder.

The story of Leslie Sturgeon is another tragic example.

Sturgeon, 33, was arrested in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, on June 10, after a naked rage at a busy intersection.

A witness caught the incident on camera, reports WDRB:

In the video, it appears that Sturgeon, naked, tries to enter a car before being taken down by police around 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of East 4th Street and Adam Shepherd Parkway in Shepherdsville. At one point, police tried hitting Sturgeon with a baton to get him to comply. It didn’t work.

The video footage was uploaded to Facebook and YouTube, and many comments on the video were not kind, said William Sturgeon, Leslie’s older brother:

“Just the discourtesy of people automatically assuming that it’s drug-related, and it’s totally not, is wrong. He suffers from bi-polar and schizophrenia, and it has nothing to do with drugs or anything like that.”

Shepherdsville Police Chief Rick McCubbin said cases like Sturgeon’s present challenges:

“We’re at a point, I think, where we’re trying to keep them from hurting themselves, the public and the police now,” McCubbin said.

He called the take-down, “Textbook perfect … My guys didn’t get hurt, and he didn’t get hurt but we had to get him off the street.”

McCubbin added that these days, it is hard to tell who is high and who is suffering from mental illness.

Officers took Sturgeon to the hospital for mental treatment. McCubbin said if he gets the help he needs, some – if not all – of the charges may be dismissed.

“What I find sad is there’s just no place for these people, ” McCubbin said. “The system as a whole has failed these folks.”

William said his brother doesn’t remember what happened, and he hopes that his brother’s situation will help people become more compassionate.

“It’s real,” William said. “The mental disease is real.”
