More Obama Executive Orders on Guns in Wake of Navy Yard Shooting?

The local CBS affiliate out of Washington D.C. is floating talk of potential executive actions following the Navy Yard shooting that left 13 people dead yesterday:

In the wake of the shooting at the Navy Yard, Obama spokesman Jay Carney said the president is implementing executive actions and reiterated his commitment to strengthening gun laws, including expanding background checks to sales online and at gun shows.

“The president supports, as do an overwhelming majority of Americans, common-sense measures to reduce gun violence,” Carney said.

As gun control has shot straight to the top of the talking point list in the last 24 hours, it’s pretty clear there’s a renewed anti-Second Amendment agenda the likes of which we haven’t seen since the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting last December.

Following that tragedy, President Obama signed a whopping 23 executive orders, nearly a third of which were mental health related and another third had to do with new gun rules:

At least 7 of the 23 executive orders relate to mental health reporting that includes “clarifying” the role of doctors and health care providers in “asking their patients about guns in the home,” reporting “threats of violence” to authorities, and screening for “mental health” will create the backbone for a “no buy” list that disbars Constitutional rights from flagged individuals without due process. At least 8 executive orders relate to new rules on background checks and weapons sales & ownership restrictions.

Obama signed two new executive orders related to guns just a few weeks ago.

Are more of these orders on America’s horizon? The president’s history of rule by executive fiat suggests it is a likely possibility.
