Minneapolis Police to defy liberal mayor, plan to attend Trump rally today wearing specially designed red shirts

Published on

A Minneapolis police union leader is criticizing the city’s liberal mayor for trying to “antagonize” and “bully” President Trump and says local law enforcement will be out in force to show their support for the president.

Lieutenant Bob Kroll, president of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis, promised a “groundswell” of support for Trump at his planned rally Thursday, telling “Fox & Friends” that police plan to turn the Target Center into a “sea of red” with “Cops for Trump” T-shirts.

Hours after the rally was announced, Mayor Jacob Frey’s office and Police Chief Medaria Arradondo announced that police officers were no longer allowed to wear their formal uniforms at political events.

“I don’t want the Minneapolis Police Department to be politicized at all,” Arradondo said last week, claiming the department was “not showing favor or bias toward a particular political party or candidate,” and pushing back against accusations of political motivation.

Police are pushing back now with plans to wear the red t-shirts which Kroll said have been “selling out” quickly.

Kroll told Fox News’ Pete Hegseth that officers “don’t want any issues,” but plan to proudly wear the shirts they have designed. Proceeds from the sale of the shirts go toward police union charities.

“In compliance with policy, we don’t want any issue,” Kroll said. “So, we just thought you know what we’ll turn the place into a sea of red with the shirts we designed. And, they’re available and we can’t keep them on the shelves. They’ve been selling out as fast as they come in!”

He noted that police officers were “ironically ordered to stand behind” former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton but are now being told they are banned from doing the same for Trump. Kroll pointed to the many policies under the Obama administration that were not supportive of law enforcement.

“It’s the exact opposite under the Trump administration,” he said. “Law enforcement nationwide has enjoyed his support.”

In fact, the president showed his support on Twitter by posting the Fox News interview with Kroll and giving him a shout of thanks.

The president also called out the “Radical Left Mayor of Minneapolis” who, in addition to the new policy on police in uniform, has targeted Trump with a proposed $530,000 security fee to use the arena for the rally.

Trump’s campaign manager, Brad Parscale, accused Frey of an “abuse of power.”

“The radical leftist mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, is abusing the power of his office and attempt to extort President Trump’s re-election campaign by conjuring a phony and outlandish bill for security in an effort to block a scheduled Keep America Great rally,” a campaign press release stated.

“It’s disparate treatment,” Kroll agreed on Fox News. “They have not charged nearly that much for other events…”

In another tweet, Parscale called out Frey as a “radical left-wing nutjob” and vowed to “seek all legal remedies.”
