Harvey Weinstein, the elite Hollywood producer who raked in millions on such non-violent, gun-free films as Django Unchained, Rambo, Inglourious Basterds, Sin City, Grindhouse, Kill Bill: Vols. I and II, and Pulp Fiction, recently announced on The Howard Stern Show that his next film, “will expose the [National Rifle Association] for their behind the scenes machinations of what Obama himself called ‘intimidation’ and ‘lies’ that ended up defeating legislation that would have expanded background checks on gun sales.”
Following the defeat of Harry Reid’s Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013 last year on the basis that it would lead to a national gun registry, President Obama accused gun lobbies and their supporters of willfully lying to defeat the bill: “They claimed that it would create some sort of ‘big brother’ gun registry, even though the bill did the opposite. This legislation, in fact, outlawed any registry. Plain and simple, right there in the text. But that didn’t matter.”
According to U.S. News, Weinstein says his new film The Senator’s Wife, “which will star Oscar-winner Meryl Streep and others on the film colony’s A List, will be ‘a behind-the-scenes account of how the NRA used its influence with politicians to defeat the bill.'”
Weinstein, an avid Barack Obama supporter, told Howard Stern that he abhors guns and does not think Americans should have any:
“I never want to have a gun. I don’t think we need guns in this country, and I hate it. I think the NRA is a disaster area.”
The producer vowed, “they’re (the NRA is) going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them.” He also claims the film will be so powerful, it will hurt gun manufacturers.
Weinstein didn’t stop there. He also recently told Piers Morgan he’s going to stop making movies that glamorize gun violence; did he forget that he currently has Kill Bill Vol. III and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For in the works?
“Spare us the gun lecture, Harvey” says S.E. Cupp:
If we’re to assume Weinstein is motivated by a deep concern about gun violence (and not sheer arrogance), then it’s also worth pointing out that he’s got the wrong target. The NRA represents law-abiding gun owners, not criminals. A gangbanger in Chicago doesn’t care about the NRA, isn’t motivated or supported by the NRA, and may not even know what the NRA is. In vowing to take down this powerful organization supported by millions of law-abiding citizens, Weinstein will simply end up empowering and emboldening it.
And lastly, the effort most certainly won’t rid the country of guns (a goal he’s admitted to having, unless there’s another Holocaust in which case he very much wants a gun, or something.)
There are approximately 30,000 gun deaths in America each year — two-thirds of which are suicides.
Over a million abortions are performed every year in this country as well.
No word on when Weinstein’s righteous outrage and subsequent agenda-driven movie about that will come out.
