Military Practice Bomb Fired Into Bar Parking Lot
The Maryland National Guard admitted to dropping a “practice bomb” onto the parking lot of an eastern shore bar, damaging property and frightening residents.

Thursday night during a military training exercise a “practice bomb” was dropped from a military aircraft. The military now admits that they were responsible for the bombing, but are claiming that it was due to a technical malfunction that occurred during a training exercise.
The bomb landed in the parking lot of Darlene’s Tavern in Sudlersville, Maryland, causing property damage and frightening many bar patrons and nearby residents.
According to CBS Baltimore “Just after 9 p.m., surveillance video shows stunned patrons looking on as gray smoke billows from the parking lot.”[1]
“There was debris all over everybody’s vehicles and everything” said Lena Hartlove, co-owner.
“I was just thanking God it wasn’t closer to the bar because there were people sitting up at the picnic tables when this happened,” Hartlove said.
“We seen the big hole. And it was about two and a half feet deep and about two foot wide,” co-owner Darlene Hurley said.
When police realized that it was a military device and not the work of a random citizen they began making rude jokes to the bar owners about how hilarious it was that their business got bombed.
The military was also unsympathetic, despite cleaning up the site and filling in the hole on the parking lot.
“There was nothing on it that was explosive. It had metal fins. That’s pretty much it. This was a night-time mission where they were dropping ordinances on a range. And unfortunately, this incident occurred. ” said Lt. Col. Charles S. Kohler, Md. National Guard.
