Mike Pence Wasted Taxpayer Money On The NFL In Political PR Stunt

Vice president Mike Pence spent more money than most Americans make in one year to perform a political public relations stunt at a National Football League game over the weekend.  Some of his flagrant waste of taxpayer dollars went straight into hands of the NFL too – the organization which many on the right have decided to boycott.

Mike Pence made a big show out of leaving a football game early. Not just any game though. He went to an Indianapolis Colts game at home against the much-hated by the right, San Franciso 49ers. He then proudly declared himself upset and offended that some players knelt during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner (which he knew well in advance would happen.) “I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our flag, or our national anthem,” he declared on Twitter.

Not only was the picture in this tweet from 2014, and not Sunday’s game, Pence was almost immediately thrashed for what was an obvious political stunt.

The flight to Indianapolis alone cost an estimated $100,000. The total price tag will also include ground, transportation, and security; as well as expensive seats befitting the vice president.  Vanity Fair reported that the entire cost to taxpayers was about  $250,000. It’s more than most Americans earn in a year. An aide to the VP told CNN that the trip to Indianapolis “was planned for weeks because former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was being honored.”

According to President Donald Trump, who ignited the whole NFL debacle when he called kneeling players protesting police brutality “sons of bitches,” the two men discussed the possibility of players protesting during the national anthem and planned on Pence leaving if that happened. In other words, the president and the vice-president made a premeditated plan to spend six figures traveling to an event knowing it was very likely Pence would not even attend.

49ers safety, Eric Reid, one of the original men to take a knee alongside Colin Kaepernick later told reporters, “This is not about the military, this is not about the flag, this is not about the anthem.”

My mother served in the armed forces. Three of my uncles served … I have the utmost respect for the military, for the anthem, for the flag … This is about systemic oppression that has been rampant in this country … I will keep doing what I feel is necessary, to use the platform that I have, to make changes. It’s really disheartening when everything you were raised on, everything I was raised on, was to be the best person I can be, to help people who need help, and the vice president of the United States is trying to confuse the message that we’re trying to put out there. I don’t know what to say about it,” said Reid.

But Trump and Pence have made it about a flag an in order to get the masses more offended than they already are, the two devised this little political stunt. Fortunately, most saw right through it.  Trump has been using the NFL to distract and divide for the past few weeks, tweeting no less than 27 times about the NFL with bigger issues like Puerto Rico and North Korea to handle, and pawn Mike Pence made that perfectly clear to us yesterday.

It almost seems as if the right just wants their already hurt feelings to be hurt even more.  They have been photoshopping images showing the Seattle Seahawks burning a flag in their locker room (which never happened) and have written entire articles claiming injuries are due to a racist offensive line (yes, the entire offensive line) allowing the best defense in the league to make a sack unintentionally injuring a quarterback on a clean play.  Their credibility it already thrashed and Pence just proves that the right snowflakes can meltdown just as quickly as the left snowflakes when presented with the perfect bait.
