Merkel Backs Down On Open Border Policy

The German people are turning against Merkel and the globalist ideals of her party.

In a stunning reversal, German Prime Minister Angela Merkel has backed down on her open border policy, saying at a press conference in Rome that member nations need to protect the EU’s borders “from the Mediterranean to the North Pole.” However, she hasn’t given any indication that she’s changed her mind on multiculturalism or the migrant crisis. She simply has no choice but to shutter the borders of the EU.

In her words, unsecured borders are now killing her precious European Union. Countries like Greece and Italy can’t stop the migrants from heading to Europe, but countries like Austria can lock their borders down. If internal nations can do that, it will threaten passport free travel within the EU, which would also threaten a “return to nationalism.”

But that’s not the only thing that would create a surge of nationalist sentiments. Though she didn’t say it, the real reason why she needs to close the EU’s external borders is purely political. The migrant crisis has inspired the rise of the nationalistic right wing AfD party. And on top of that, recent polls have shown that nearly half of Germany’s population now fears the Islamization of their country. In other words, the German people are turning against Merkel and the globalist ideals of her party.

And that’s the real threat to the EU. Europeans are beginning to prioritize the survival of their culture and their sovereignty over their neighbors. Increasingly, they don’t want to share their space with alien cultures, and they want to put their nations first. And that’s something the EU definitely cannot have.
