Man Takes Down Armed Robber: “I Beat Him With His Own Gun”

John McGowan was at a Sunoco in Norwood, PA, around 1:30 Saturday morning when he found himself facing the barrel of a gun.

A masked man walked into the convenience store and right up to McGowan, pointed a gun inches from his face, and demanded money.

McGowan told the masked man, “You are messing with the wrong guy.”

With that, McGowan headed straight for the would-be robber and tackled him. Surveillance video recorded the incident:

“I just started wrestling with him. We went to the ground and got him in a Brazilian Jujitsu choke hold and just beat him with his own gun,” McGowan said. He held the gunman until police arrived.

The masked man fired two shots – one of which grazed McGowan’s foot.

The suspect, 20- CJ Gostynski, is facing 33 charges including robbery and assault. An AR-15 rifle with 60 rounds of ammunition was found in his truck. Police say he grew up in the neighborhood and has no criminal history.

Wally Mansour, the owner of the Sunoco, told Fox 29 that McGowan is a hero:

“It was like an action movie. He put his life on the line that’s for sure. He put his life on the line and he was brave enough to do it.”
