Lockdown at US Capitol Building Lifted After Employee Suspected of Carrying a Gun

Congress Capitol building

Like the news isn’t confusing enough this morning (and none of it is about the FBI announcing the rule of law is now dead in America, fancy that), the US Capitol building and visitor’s center were also placed on lockdown around 8:40 am out of “an abundance of caution” following reports that security cameras caught an employee was carrying what appeared to be a firearm inside a backpack.

The House went into recess, and people were told to shelter in place while no one was allowed to enter or exit the building. About an hour later, the lockdown was lifted after Capitol police “determined that the item was not a threat to the Congressional community,” according to a statement Capitol officials sent to Congress members.
