Legislation proposed in Georgia that would ban the possession of semi-automatic firearms

Georgia state senator Donzella James has pre-filed extereme gun control legislation SB281

Georgia State Senator Donzella James, (D-Atlanta), has pre-filed legislation that would ban the possession of semi-automatic firearms. The prohibitions in Senate Bill 281 would even ban common semi-automatic shotguns used for bird hunting and trap shooting. Any person convicted under this new law “shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of 5 years.” SB 281 has yet to be assigned to a committee.

Legislation like SB 281 continues to be introduced across the nation, and many legislators jump at the chance to be at the forefront of gun-control efforts. Passage of SB 281 will do nothing to curb gun violence committed by criminals, but instead punishes law-abiding citizens.

“SB 281 is a wakeup call for sportsmen and gun owners,” said Bruce Tague vice president government affairs for Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Whether you are a duck hunter, deer hunter or trap shooter, it doesn’t matter. This bill unjustly penalizes law-abiding hunters, sport shooters and gun owners.”

You can read the current version of the bill here.
