Even though no one is taking this poorly produced video seriously, they are hosting press conferences and forcing the idea into everyone’s minds that an ISIS attack on NYC might be coming.
ISIS has reportedly released a new propaganda video not so subtly claiming they will strike New York City next. “The video reaffirms the message that New York City remains a top terrorist target,” the NYPD said in a statement.
The video uses what many have commented is stock footage of several locations around the city including Times Square, a T.G.I. Fridays restaurant (guess the terrorists hate schwag), a Gap store located in Herald Square, and random scenes of yellow taxis. The video also includes terrorists wearing suicide belts. It has been pointed out that some of the footage is from a previous video threatening the city.
NYPD says the city is on a “heightened state of vigilance” but no one should live in fear, see something say something etc. (you know, the usual stuff they always say when this happens).
“No city is better prepared to protect against terrorist attack,” Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said in a press conference, urging residents to “be aware but not afraid” while telling them stuff that would essentially make them afraid. “The NYPD will protect you. We will not be intimidated and we will not live in fear.”
Mayor De Blasio said, “Stoking fear is the goal of terrorist organizations…” and then he went on to stoke some fear about the ISIS video, likely causing some people to get confused about who exactly the terrorist organization was.
They don’t want people to be afraid, but obviously even though no one is taking this poorly produced video seriously, they are hosting press conferences and releasing statements and forcing the idea into everyone’s minds that an ISIS attack on NYC might be forthcoming.
So live in fear but don’t live in fear while you are living in fear… because the take away message is fear.
