Knife Wielding Man Burns and Stabs Swiss Train Passengers

On Saturday Afternoon, A knife wielding man boarded a Swiss train carrying dozens of passengers, as it arrived at the Salez station in the Canton of St. Gallen. The 27-year-old man poured a flammable liquid into the train, set it a light, and proceeded to stab multiple passengers.

Six of the passengers were injured in the attack including a six-year-old child. All suffered burns and stab wounds, and are being treated at the hospital. Other victims include a 17-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy, and three middle-aged adults. The attacker was also severely injured, and was arrested before being taken to the hospital.

The police have described the man as a Swiss citizen, but his name and motivation for the attack have yet to be revealed. However, given the slew of attacks that have rocked Europe recently, it appears likely that this incident was a terror attack.

So far Switzerland has been spared from the wave of bombings and shootings that have plagued Europe over the past year. If this attack does turn out to be the work of a terrorist, it would be the first attack of that kind in Switzerland since the bombing of Swissair Flight 330 in 1970.
