Kanye To Bush: I Know How You Feel About Being Called a Racist

George Bush recently spoke out about the events surrounding the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when rapper Kanye West suggested he, “doesn’t care about black people.” In an interview with Matt Lauer the former President said that the criticism was one of the “most disgusting” moments of his presidency.

Bush said that he didn’t appreciate the comments then, and he doesn’t appreciate them now. “It’s one thing to say, I don’t appreciate the way he’s handled his business. It’s another thing to say, This man’s a racist,” said Bush. ” I resent it, it’s not true, and it was one of the most disgusting moments in my presidency.”

In a radio interview the same day, DJ Devi Dev asked Kanye about the incident, who since the Katrina disaster has had his own run-ins with the race card after he interrupted white musician Taylor Swift during an awards show saying that a competing act, West’s friend Beyonce, should have won the award. West indicated that after having gone through similar blow-back because of his actions as Bush did after Katrina, he can relate to how President Bush must have felt.

“I definitely can understand the way he feels to be accused of being a racist in anyway, because the same thing happened to me when I got accused of being racist. With his – with both situations – it was basically a lack of compassion that America saw in that situation.”

“With him it was lack of compassion with him not rushing – not taking the time to rush down to New Orleans. With me it was a lack of compassion of cutting someone off in their moment.”

“Nonetheless I think we’re all quick to pull a race card in America.”

“Now I’m more open and the poetic justice that I feel to have went through the same thing that he went. And now I really more connect with him on a humanitarian level, because that next morning that he felt that, I felt that same thing too.”

Kanye West Criticizes Bush:

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, as emergency response times were measured in days not hours, and residents of the city of New Orleans suffered without clean water, food and sanitation, Kanye points the finger directly at then President Bush:
