John Boehner: Opponents of TARP Are “Knuckledraggers”

John Boehner is not a conservative friends. He is a Republican in name only (RINO). No I’m not just coming to that conclusion. I’ve pointed it out since I began writing. However, he tried to defend another RINO’s vote on TARP, the auto bailout, stimulus and a host of other things as being “practical conservative,” while at the same time indicating that those who were opposed to that as “knuckledraggers.” He was defending Mitt Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan’s voting record.

Boehner appeared on Fox News with Great van Susteren and here’s how the conversation went:

VAN SUSTEREN, FOX News: People think of him as hawkish on the budget, on expenses, but he voted for TARP. He voted for the auto bailout, voted for two stimulus in ’08, voted against the ’09 — February ’09 President Obama stimulus. How does — I mean, how does he explain those, or I mean, how does — politically, how does he sell that?

BOEHNER: I mean, I think that he’s a practical conservative. He’s got a very conservative voting record, but he’s not a knuckle-dragger, all right? He understood that TARP, while none of us wanted to do it, if we were going to save — save our economy, save the world economy, it had to happen. I wish we didn’t have to do it, either, but he understood that.

In response to Boehner’s comments, Jenny Beth Martin of the Tea Party Patriots issued this statement:

“This is an asinine statement that further demonstrates Speaker Boehner is out of touch with the American people. The Tea Party was born out of opposition to such big government policies. House Republicans will fail if their leader keeps espousing White House talking points. As Congress this month matches its lowest approval rating of all time, it’s time for the Speaker to lead.”

This is the same man that cried like a baby when he was made Speaker of the House and talked about conservatism and how he understood small business owners and yada, yada. It’s things like this that make me sick to my stomach. Men like John Boehner will not stand up and do what is right, but do what is politically expedient. Are there any real men in Washington anymore? Thankfully there are, but friends they are very, very rare.

The only way you are a “practical conservative” is if you actually practice conservatism. Neither Boehner, nor Paul Ryan have demonstrated that in their voting record. Fiscally they have been behind the outrageous government spending by backing TARP and other government programs and they have done it with our money. The irony is that they are put forward as those who are fiscally conservative.

Boehner tried to justify this by claiming that it saved our economy and the world economy. Can I ask how that worked out for Europe? Greece? How’s that working out for the American people? Boehner is feeding us the same sad line that we get from the Democrats.

I hope the Tea Party people in Ohio will relieve him of his service in Washington.
