Jared Fogle Sentenced to More Than 15 Years for Child Pornography and Sex Charges

Former Subway spokesman and 38-year-old father of two Jared Fogle was sentenced today to 15 years and eight months for child pornography and paying to have sex with children (although the media keeps calling them “underage prostitutes” as if someone who is underage is somehow old enough to make a willing decision to become a prostitute on their own).

Per his plea deal, Fogle was allowed to plead guilty to just two counts: one for traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor, and one for distribution and receipt of child pornography. The sentencing does at least leave the door open for more charges if more evidence of further crimes against children is found against Fogle in the future.

So far, authorities have been able to identify a dozen of Fogle’s victims of child pornography in Indiana where he lived (just in Indiana) and two of Fogle’s victims of child prostitution in New York according to documents in Fogle’s court case. Fogle has already begun paying $1.4 in restitution to these 14 victims.

Fogle will be required to undergo sexual disorder treatment and will forever be forced to register as a sex offender anywhere he lives or works for the rest of his life. He also agreed to avoid child pornography which, considering the expansive charges and number of victims, seems like a joke.

Prosecutors say Fogle admitted to being sexually attracted to children as little as eight years old. Just before he was sentenced, his lawyers called John Bradford, a professor at the University of Ottawa, who testified by phone that Fogle suffers from “mild pedophilia” and hypersexuality, in addition to being an alcoholic.

“Mild pedophilia?”

Fifteen years and eight months is actually not nearly as bad as it could have been for Fogle. He could’ve gotten up to 50 years. Of his deal with Subway, the judge said, “What a gift, to have such a professional windfall fall in your lap,” considering he was basically living a double life most of his life. Subway finally fired Fogle as a spokesman for the sandwich chain, but not until news broke that he struck the plea agreement.

Gee. Imagine that.
