Is this even America? Teen ripped from her family by medical authorities begs to go home

Justina-Pelletier-2

There has been an epidemic of forced toxic medications on children to the point of taking those children away from their parents. This current situation, created by Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH), is as bad as it gets, or even worse.

Justina Pelletier, now 15, had been diagnosed with a rare mitochondrial disease that induces muscle weakness and loss of coordination by an MD at Tufts Medical Center, also in Boston. Justina was using prescribed medications for her situation and leading an apparently normal life despite her condition.

Tufts is no alternative medical center by any means. Straight AMA, all the way. That’s what makes this whole thing weirder than forced chemo and radiation or forced vaccinations for those who refuse them and seek alternative treatments.

She was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) ER for an episode of the flu last year. The medical team there decided that her diagnosis from Tufts was bogus and that she was suffering from a mental disorder known as somatoform disorder.

This “mental disorder” is an “it’s all in your head” scenario to explain inexplicable physical manifestations among young people, and it’s treated with extensive psychotherapy.

The “legalized” kidnapping details

Okay, they disagreed with the Tufts’ diagnosis. But the Pelletiers and Justina seemed fine with the treatments prescribed by Tufts. Unfortunately, they refused to let Justina leave BCH after she recovered from the flu. They were insisting on treating her somatoform disorder with extended psychotherapy.

When her parents insisted on taking her home, the BCH staff considered their demands to be parental negligence and called the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families (DCF).

Then BCH filled a 51A form accusing the parents, Lou and Linda Pelletier, of child abuse. This enabled BCH to keep Justina in custody at the hospital’s psych ward and allowed the parents only a one-hour visit weekly. One of Justina’s friends complained how she was prevented from speaking with her by phone.

Dr. Mark Korson, the Tufts Medical Center specialist who diagnosed Justina with mitochondrial disease, complained to media: “It feels like Justina’s treatment team is out to prove the [somatoform] diagnosis at all costs. … The team has demanded that Justina be removed from the home. … This represents the most severe and intrusive intervention a patient can undergo… for a clinical hunch.” [1]

A court order by Judge Joseph Johnston had awarded the DCF permanent custody of Justina, the state decided that the state should be her guardian. All because Justina’s father, Lou, expressed his outrage with foul language, causing a social worker to exit the case. Lou Pelletier explained on TV, “Once DCF gets custody, you fall in this deep, dark rabbit hole that you can’t get out of.” [2]

Someone taped a phone camera video of Justina pleading to Judge Johnston and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to be released to her parents. You can view it here.

It’s obvious in the video that Justina can barely walk (she was in a wheelchair) and she was struggling to speak and very upset. This supports what the parents maintained when they countered BCH’s assertions that Justina’s condition regressed when her parents were around. Her condition has worsened since her confinement. [3]

At the time of this writing, that video had 422 outraged supportive comments. More than one suggested hardball attorneys and a lawsuit when this episode ends. After all the regional TV coverage, the DCF did move Justina into a rehabilitation center in Connecticut, which makes it easier for parents and friends in Hartford, Connecticut, to visit her.

Now, there is a document from the Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services, dated May 5, 2014, to a concerned Congressman, detailing the conditions of returning Justina to her home (http://cbsboston.files.wordpress.com) [PDF].

What was that about a “deep rabbit hole”?
