Illinois Man Jumps into Moving Car, Rescues Driver Who Was Having a Seizure

An Illinois man risked his life on Friday when he jumped through the window of a moving car to save the driver, who was having a seizure.

The man was identified as Randy Tompkins, who quickly recognized something terrible was happening when he saw a sedan veer into oncoming traffic. Tompkins parked his truck in the middle of the road, chased down the runaway car and stopped it before it could collide with another car or a pedestrian.

“I was praying that he wasn’t going to hit the gas, because, obviously, I had to jump through his window,” Tompkins told a local news station. “I just did it so fast. I didn’t think about it. I just did it.”

Dashcam video footage from the Dixon Police department shows the sedan roll through a red light as the police cruiser approached an intersection. The officer turns left to follow the vehicle, at which point Tompkin’s pickup truck is visible in the oncoming lane. What happens next is incredible (video courtesy of the Daily Mail).

Tompkins said he knew what was happening, as he had seen other seizures before. The police were not nearly as quick to figure out what was going on.

Because of Tompkins’ brave act, a tragedy, or at least an accident, was avoided.
