Ilhan Omar Claims ‘Every day on average 500 people die from gun violence.’

Published on

Earlier this month Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) tweeted in support of Rep. Lucy McBath’s anti-gun push.

The claim was so blatantly wrong that even Politifact had to rate it as false.

According to Gun Violence Archive, in 2018 the number of gun-related deaths was 14,754 which over the course of the year was an average of 40 deaths per day, not the 500 deaths as Omar claims.

When questioned about the source for her outlandish claim her spokesperson, Jeremy Slevin, defended Omar’s use of the 500 figure. Saying that Omar’s tweet was “in the context of domestic legislation” and that the “reference to 500 could have been more precise”.

Just recently Rep. Adam Schiff also quoted a higher figure in pushing for legislation to deny Second Amendment rights.  Fales data seems to be a trend when it comes to anything having to do with the lefts attempts to deny citizens their fundamental rights.
