Holy Cow! Danish Teenager Finds WW2 Plane Crash and the Remains of the Pilot

When you were a kid, you probably spent time in your backyard searching for buried treasure or some other fantastic mystery. Unfortunately for you, a boy in Denmark recently found something in his backyard that probably puts all of your childhood fantasies to shame.

14-year-old Daniel Rom Kristiansen recently made a shocking discovery in a field behind his rural home. It all started when he was given a history assignment from school. In response, his father jokingly suggested that they go searching for some real history in the backyard. Apparently Daniel’s grandfather had claimed many years prior, that a German fighter plane crashed in the field during World War Two. So the father/son duo went searching for the plane with a metal detector.

Lo and behold, they actually found it. They decided to retrieve an excavator from a neighbor, and they went about digging up the ME 109 Messerschmitt plane, and a whole lot more. According to the father:

“In the first moment it was not a plane,” Mr Kristiansen told the BBC. “It was maybe 2,000 – 5,000 pieces of a plane. And we found a motor… then suddenly we found parts of bones, and parts from [the pilot’s] clothes.

“And then we found some personal things – books, a wallet with money… Either it was a little Bible or it was Mein Kampf – a book in his pocket. We didn’t touch it, we just put it in some bags. A museum is now taking care of it. I think there’s a lot of information in those papers.”

So far the local police have cordoned off the crash site, and are planning to have the munitions that were found removed by bomb disposal experts. Forensic detectives are currently trying to remove the remains, and are hoping that they can identify the body.
