Two homeless men ages 14 and 17 were outraged after they saw someone filming them at a homeless camp in Kakaako, Hawaii. They claim that they are often filmed and taunted by local residents on a daily basis, and they decided to do something about it. After asking the man to put away his camera, he refused, so the two boys decided to beat him. He suffered a concussion and had to be treated at the hospital. What they didn’t know at the time though, was that the man was none other than State Representative Tom Brower.

Brower became known as the “sledgehammer lawmaker” in 2013, after he was filmed smashing abandoned shopping carts that could be used by the homeless to carry their belongings. One of the boys was interviewed by the local news, and explained his actions “How would you feel if I walked in your house and just started recording you, right? We live here, this our house, respect it”…”We don’t choose to live like this. If I had a choice to go to a house right now and live in that house, and I can pay for it. Trust and believe, I would be in my house. I wouldn’t be living underneath one tent.”

Tom Brower claims it went down differently though. He says that the attack was completely unprovoked, and makes no mention of the conversation between himself and the boys. Currently, he’s not sure if he’ll press charges.
