Communists and socialists all over the world are celebrating International Workers Day today. Hundreds of thousands of protesters are expected to take to the streets in major cities across the United States, and in Europe these protesters are already clashing with the police. In Cuba, one of the world’s last remaining communist dictatorships, the government’s highly choreographed May Day parade almost went off without a hitch.
As President Raul Castro (along with dozens of generals, political leaders, and foreign dignitaries) watched the parade, a lone protester ran past thousands of pro-government marchers while carrying an American flag above his head. The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was quickly captured by security agents. So far no dissident groups in the country have claimed him, and unsurprisingly, the media in Cuba has completely ignored his bolt protest.
