Grandfather of Teen Slain by AR-15 During Robbery Says It Wasn’t a Fair Fight

You may recall the recent story of a 23-year-old man from Oklahoma who shot and killed three armed teenage burglars in his home with an AR-15. Now the story has taken an interesting twist, as the grandfather of one of the teens has spoken out, and condemned the actions of the man who defended himself.

Leroy Schumacher, the grandfather of 17-year-old Jacob Redfearn, admitted to ABC news over the weekend that “What these three boys did was stupid,” but added that “They knew they could be punished for it but they did not deserve to die. Brass knuckles against an AR-15, come on, who was afraid for their life?”

Schumacher went on to claim that he supported the Second Amendment, but then suggested there should be laws in place to prevent what happened to his son. “There’s got to be a limit to that law. I mean he shot all three of them; there was no need for that…These boys’ families are going to suffer with this for the rest of their lives. We have to live with this for the rest of our lives.”

The police have stood by their stance that Zachary Peters acted in self-defense and shouldn’t be charged, and for a very good reason. When they arrived on the scene and searched the bodies of the slain teens, they a found knife and brass knuckles. Clearly, they weren’t looking for a fair fight when they broke into that home. Could you imagine what would have happened to Zachary if he hadn’t had access to a rifle? It would have been his bare hands against three armed robbers.

This is why we have the Second Amendment folks. Guns can turn any fight into a fair fight.
