Earlier today there was a shooting at two separate military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which the FBI is currently treating as a “domestic terrorist” attack. For now, details are sparse and the authorities are waiting to reveal the name and motivations of the gunman. But here’s what we know so far (according to mainstream media sources anyway, so take with a grain of salt).

At around 10:45 AM Eastern Time, between 25 and 30 shots were fired at a US Naval recruiting facility, which one witness described as being shot by a “high powered rifle.” The gunman then drove off in a silver Mustang to a Naval Reserve Center 6 miles away, and opened fire there as well. Four Marines were killed, and one police officer was injured. He is currently in stable condition. The gunman has also been killed, but investigators have yet to reveal the nature of his death. Another shooting was reported at the Bradley Square Mall, but police claim that this report is false. The governor’s residence was temporarily shutdown in the wake of the shooting, and the Department of Homeland Security has activated their Chattanooga strike team.

Updates are still coming in, but for now it’s impossible to say exactly what happened here. Feel free to share your thoughts (and suspicions) in the comments.

Update: shooter has been identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.
