Fort Knox Shooting Leaves One Civilian Dead

A civilian employee has died following a shooting at Fort Knox in central Kentucky. Military officials said the victim worked for the US Army Human Resources Command. The shooting occurred outside in a parking lot. The man was flown by helicopter to a local Kentucky hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Chris Grey, a spokesman for the US Army Criminal Investigative Command, said authorities “are investigating a personal incident and not a random act of violence”. The identity of the victim is being withheld until the man’s family has been informed. Police are seeking to speak with a person of interest. The FBI is also assisting in the investigation.

Post spokesman Kyle Hodges said the base remains on a heightened security alert. The 170-square-mile base 40,000 soldiers and their families and is home to the US Bullion Depository, where some 4,500 tons of gold are stored.
