Former TV Reporter Shot and Killed Colleagues During Live Broadcast

Former TV reporter Vester Lee Flanagan II, who went by the name of Bryce Williams, killed two ex-colleagues during a live broadcast earlier today. The two victims, Alison Parker and her cameraman Adam Ward, were conducting an interview for WDBJ7 when Williams arrived with a pistol, and filmed himself shooting both of them. He posted his cell phone footage to Facebook and Twitter, which has since been taken down by those websites.

Warning: Disturbing Content

Williams was an employee of WDBJ7, but was fired two years ago. So far, the shooting appears to be racially motivated. According to several of his tweets, Alison had made racist comments in the past, and he filed a report against her to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, but she was hired by the TV station anyway. Two hours after the shooting, he sent a 23 page fax to ABC news, in which he claimed his actions were in response to the Charleston church shooting.

Williams fled the scene of the crime before the police arrived. The police later caught up to him in Fauquier County Virginia, where he crashed his car during a pursuit. He was found in his car with a self-inflicted gun shot wound, and later died at the hospital. The White House has since called for more gun legislation in the wake of the shooting.
