Former Florida Sheriff’s Deputy Sentenced for Having Sex with an Underage Girl
A former sheriff’s deputy of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office was sentenced on Monday following a conviction in August on three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor in 2014.
Circuit Judge John L. Miller sentenced Thomas to 30 years in state prison as well as 15 years of sex offender probation.
Thomas was employed with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office in the Florida Panhandle at time of the offenses. He engaged in so-called “group sex” involving a 17-year-old girl and two other adults, who later testified against Thomas.
Judge Miller said during the sentencing that Thomas had “violated” somebody he swore to protect.
“When you wear a badge it should stand for something. You stood for nothing except satisfying your own personal desires,” said Judge Miller during sentencing.
