Food Stamp Program Is More Likely to Give Benefits to Illegal Alien Families

It doesn’t matter if both families have the same income and size, the family with the illegal alien always has a higher probability of receiving benefits.

Contrary to what liberals often claim, most Americans don’t hate immigrants, or even fear them. But what does raise the ire of most working class Americans, is when people sneak into our country illegally. And what angers them more even more, is when those illegals are given preferential treatment over Americans and people who immigrated here legally.

That seems to be what’s going on with America’s food stamp program, also known as SNAP. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the SNAP program is more likely to give food benefits to families with illegal aliens (called ineligible aliens by SNAP) then they are to give benefits to American citizens.

It doesn’t matter if both families have the same income and size, the family with the illegal alien always has a higher probability of receiving benefits. That’s because state governments, who distribute the food stamp money given to them by the federal government, have the option to include only part of the wages of an employed ineligible alien. So those families always come up with an artificially lower annual income, and receive more benefits.

This bias was seen in all states except for Arizona, Guam, Massachusetts, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Utah. The Center for Immigration Studies also found that these policies are causing states to spend more money than they should. If they treated all of these families fairly, the United States would be spending over $1 billion less on food stamps than it is now.
