The official “primary function” of Federal Bureau of Investigation, in case you hadn’t heard, is no longer law enforcement; spot the difference on this official FBI fact sheet:
Did you know the primary function of the FBI is officially “national security”?
A cursory glance around the FBI.gov website confirms the FBI’s goal is to fight a war on the abstract concept that is terrorism.
The FBI “About Us” page affirms “Our mission is to help protect you, your children, your communities, and your businesses from the most dangerous threats facing our nation,” with the very first thing listed as the most dangerous threat we face being “international and domestic terrorists”.
The FBI FAQ page used to say “The official mission of the FBI is to uphold the law through the investigation of violations of federal criminal law,” first and foremost, but now that sentence starts with, “The mission of the FBI is to protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats…”
The FBI also has a list of ten numbered priorities, with the number one priority being, “Protect the United States from terrorist attack.”
One way the agency apparently upholds this mission according to RT.com is that it “organizes almost all terrorist plots in the U.S.”:
“The FBI has in recent years used trained informants not just to snitch on suspected terrorists, but to set them up from the get-go. A recent report put together by Mother Jones and the Investigative Reporting Program at the University of California-Berkley analyses some striking statistics about the role of FBI informants in terrorism cases that the Bureau has targeted in the decade since the September 11 attacks.
The report reveals that the FBI regularly infiltrates communities where they suspect terrorist-minded individuals to be engaging with others. Regardless of their intentions, agents are sent in to converse within the community, find suspects that could potentially carry out “lone wolf” attacks, and then, more or less, encourage them to do so. By providing weaponry, funds and a plan, FBI-directed agents will encourage otherwise-unwilling participants to plot out terrorist attacks, only to bust them before any events fully materialize.” [empasis added]
Sounds an awful lot like pre-crime with an added bonus of being completely set up by the supposed crime fighters, doesn’t it?
These FBI “encouragements” apparently do not include the Boston Marathon attack (even though the Tsarnaev Brothers were on the FBI’s radar for years), but do include setting up two guys with all the tools and plans necessary to build a death ray laser.
Glendon Scott Crawford allegedly wanted to use a death ray to hurt New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. If that makes Cuomo nervous, he should blame the FBI, because it seems highly unlikely Crawford would have had much success if undercover agents hadn’t supplied him with X-ray parts, money, plans, and assembly. (source)
The death ray laser was doomed to fail, and not just because it was totally set up by the FBI. In a deadlier setup, there is also a decent amount of evidence that the agency was involved in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. FBI informant Emad Salem recorded FBI agents verifying they instructed him to help build a real bomb instead of a fake one, a real bomb which was later used, killing six people and wounding over a thousand others.
Of course, it’s a brilliant organizational strategy; as these plots get repeatedly manufactured only to be (hopefully) thwarted, the agency is guaranteed more and more power and a bigger and bigger budget. There’s no surer way to fulfill your new mission than helping to create the enemy you are supposed to be defending against.
Besides, the post-9/11 War on Terror is designed never to end. There’s no clear and specific target, no exit strategy and it has been and will be used ad nauseam to subvert the Constitution and ignore our rights. It’s a lot like the Terry Gilliam movie Brazil only, this isn’t the big screen — it’s supposedly to be reality.
To quote one senior administration official:
“We can’t possibly kill everyone who wants to harm us. It’s a necessary part of what we do. . . . We’re not going to wind up in 10 years in a world of everybody holding hands and saying, ‘We love America.’”
