Earth Is Currently Inside A Solar Windstream

The solar wind flowing from the hole in the photograph above is currently enveloping the Earth. The stream is low density and is not at this time sparking any geomagnetic storms. NOAA estimates that there’s a 50% chance of polar geomagnetic storms and the auroras they produce.

Todays sunspot number is 94. Sunspot AR1793 does pose a risk for M-class flares but at this point it’s sitting quietly almost central and to the north of the Suns equator. NOAA estimates the chance of an M-class flare at 15% and of an X-class at 0.1% over the next 24 hours.
