Every year people half a dozen people arrive at accident and emergency with injuries sustained changing their duvet covers. Really, I kid you not.

I remember one of the most unprofessional days of my career, sliding down a wall laughing as a man described how he came to have a dog bite on his calf.

Having argued with the wife about his lack of input around the house, he decided to show her how easy she had it just doing housework. After blocking the hoover and finding out he couldn’t set the washing machine he decided to change the bed. Everything was going okay until he had to put on the fresh duvet cover.

After 20 minutes he grabs one of the corners and physically crawls into the duvet cover…at which point he, the cover, and the duvet fell off the bed. He gets up, still inside the cover and trips over the duvet which is lying in a heap on the bedroom floor. On hearing the noise the family dog, a bruiser of a rottweiler called Zeus had gone up to see what all the noise was about. A bit of growling turned into a bite when he tried to get up, stumbled and landed on poor Zeus who promptly bit him.

Duvet Dave we nicknamed him.

Anyway, moving on. To all the Dave and Davinas who have trouble changing the duvet cover, this is my Christmas gift to you…and it works, it really does.

Did I ever tell you about the guy who broke his arm doing the washing up? Maybe next time.

Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year to you all. Thank you so much for reading Undergroundmedic, I hope that at least some of it has, or will come in useful.
