DOJ spent taxpayer money fomenting racial divide in wake of Trayvon Martin shooting

It is as sad as it is pathetic to learn that, when the nation is at one of its rawest moments in recent history – again, over race – the Justice Department is helping to fan the flames of unrest.

DOJ spent taxpayer money fomenting racial divide in wake of Trayvon Martin shooting

Group-Riot-Protest

By J. D. Heyes

It may sound like the stuff of conspiracy theories, but when you look at the history of blatant activism practiced by many of the top members of the Obama administration – including the president himself (Mr. Community Organizer) and his attorney general, Eric “I won’t prosecute the Black Panthers for voter intimidation” Holder – what you’re about to read isn’t such a stretch.

A noted legal watchdog group, Judicial Watch – which made a name for itself unearthing a number of scandals during the Clinton years – has uncovered documents indicating that a Department of Justice division whose stated mission is “to spot and quell racial tensions nationwide before they arise” is in reality working to foment unrest, JW said in a press release.

Documents obtained by the legal watchdog state that the division, which is cynically called the Community Relations Service, “show the group actively worked to foment unrest, spending thousands of taxpayer dollars on travel and hotel rooms to train protestors throughout Florida” in regards to the now-ended George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin case, the group said in its release.

Operatives within the CRS are ironically called “peacekeepers.”

“The peacekeepers also met with officials of the Republican National Convention, scheduled for several months later in Tampa, to warn them to expect protests in connection with Martin’s death,” said JW.

Providing “assistance” to protestors

According to the documents obtained by the group:

— A CRS employee spent $1,142.84 to travel to Sanford, Florida from March 25-28, 2012 “to work marches, demonstrations, and rallies”;

— One CRS employee spent $751.60 to travel to Sanford, Florida from March 30-April 1, 2012 “to provide technical assistance to the City of Sanford, event organizers, and law enforcement agencies for the march and rally on March 31”;

— Another CRS employee spent $1,307.40 to travel to Sanford, Florida from April 3-12, 2012 “to provide technical assistance, conciliation, and onsite mediation during demonstrations planned in Sanford”;

— A CRS employee spent $672.24 to travel to Tampa, Florida from April 18-20, 2012 “to meet with RNC official related to possible protests and demonstrations during the RNC”.

What sort of “peacekeeper” provides “technical assistance, conciliation and onsite mediation” to “event organizers” of planned, racially charged demonstrations?

Apparently those associated with the U.S. Department of Justice.

JW came to its conclusions after obtaining, among other documents, thousands of pages of emails between the Justice Department’s CRS division and local officials in Florida. Among them was “an email by Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board Program Officer Amy Carswell from April 16, 2012: ‘Congratulations to our partners, Thomas Battles, Regional Director, and Mildred De Robles, Miami-Dade Coordinator and their co-workers at the U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service for their outstanding and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and build bridges of understanding and respect in Sanford, Florida’ following a news article in the Orlando Sentinel about the secretive peacekeepers.”

From the Orlando paper:

When civil-rights organizers wanted to demonstrate, these federal workers taught them how to peacefully manage crowds. They even arranged a police escort for college students to ensure safe passage for their 40-mile march from Daytona Beach to Sanford to demand justice.

Founded as part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, by its mandate the CRS is supposed to operate largely in secret. Not surprisingly, the activist division – established during the uber-liberal activist times of the 1960s – has been greatly expanded since our Activist-in-Chief came to the Oval Office.

Activist president, activist AG, activist ‘Justice’ Department

Per Washington journalist Keith Koffler:

Under President Obama, the group’s mission has expanded substantially. Officials are permitted to take on a more aggressive role, moving from a “reactionary” to a “preventative” stance, CRS Director Ondray Harris told the website Main Justice. And the categories that can bring in The Peacemakers now include gender, “gender identity,” sexual orientation, religion, and disability.

Emotions regarding the Martin/Zimmerman case are already high – stoked in no small part by Holder himself, who has vowed to reexamine the case, as well as as well as the president – the latter of whom always has time to be an activist but rarely finds time to call families of fallen warriors who fight for our country.

It is as sad as it is pathetic to learn that, when the nation is at one of its rawest moments in recent history – again, over race – the Justice Department is helping to fan the flames of unrest.
