Dog Mauls Whole Family After They Attempt to Put a Christmas Sweater on Him

Some people just don’t understand that Dogs. Aren’t. People.

Our dog hates clothes. Even those little sweaters to keep small dogs warm in cold weather. If anyone attempts to put clothes on our dog for any reason, he freezes like a wax statue and refuses to budge for anything. You could set down a freshly prepared T-bone steak in front of that dog and if you even so much as placed a kerchief around his neck a minute before, he will just sit there and stare at you like an even more suicidal Eeyore. He won’t move until the offending article has been removed.

So I can see how this next story went terribly wrong… not that pets should maul their owners as a general rule, of course.

When 52-year-old Tampa resident Brenda Guerrero tried to put a Christmas sweater on her dog, the dog viciously attacked her. Her husband Ismael came to her rescue and attempted to pull the dog — a pit bull mix named Scarface, just by the way — off his wife, so the dog attacked him instead.

Next their 22-year-old son attempted to help by grabbing a knife and stabbing the dog in the head — so the dog attacked their son too.

The trio escaped their house after trapping the dog in the backyard.

Tampa police responded and, unlike so many other stories where dogs who aren’t actually being violent or aggressive are shot by cops, in this instance the police tried everything else so subdue the dog instead. Via ABC Action News:

When Animal Control and Tampa Police arrived to the home, the dog was shot with a tranquilizer gun. After the dog got into the house, where there were two children in the back room, TPD officers deployed a bean bag gun and taser to subdue the dog. Eventually, the dog was captured by Animal Control by using a “catch pole.”

“Officers responding said the dog was pretty aggressive,” Eddy Durkin with Tampa police said. “When they tazed the dog the dog was still pulling away and was able to release the prongs from the tazer.”

The couple was taken to the hospital, the woman with serious (but thankfully not life-threatening) injuries.

The report does not say if the dog will be euthanized, but video shows the dog being led into an Animal Control van covered in head to toe in blood.

In the comments section to the video above just by the way, lots of people were saying they feel sorry for the dog because the owners were obviously “insert synonym for stupid here” for trying to put a Christmas sweater on him.

One woman claiming to be the daughter of one of the victims showed up and posted this comment:
