The general manager at a vintage store called Hopkinson on Station Street, Nottingham dating back to the 1880s claims to have caught a ghost on the store’s CCTV surveillance cameras.
The white spectral half-figure appears to hover near a clothing rack, almost as if shopping.
General manager Izzy Watts said: “When I first saw it I said I wasn’t going to work.”
Which was a tough ask for Izzy, who was on the train to open the shop when she saw the social media post by owner Liam Woodgates.
“He’d been working late on Tuesday night [May 24], staying back to re-wire the CCTV because we were doing a move-around.
“As he was re-wiring it, he was face-to-face with the screen and just saw it, rewound it and made sure he wasn’t seeing things before taking a video copy.
“When I saw it my stomach was going and I thought it was a joke. I am quite into the supernatural, so I’m convinced. But even the friends of mine who are sceptics who always say these things are cobwebs say they believe it’s something.
“To me, it looks like a woman with a bob. It’s as if she’s just walking over towards that rail of clothes to have a browse through. It’s my favourite area of clothing in the shop, so she’s obviously a woman with taste.”
Liam added: “Out of the corner of my eye I spotted – on channel 16 – something moving.
The store, originally called H. Hopkinson Ltd., was a family run textiles shop which opened in the late 19th century.
The store circa 1900 (second building from the right).
Today it sells antiques and vintage clothing.
One could chalk it all up to an elaborate hoax by the store’s staff in an attempt to drive more customers, but the whole thing seems pretty tame if that’s the true goal.
