At around 4pm, a man was spotted climbing Trump Tower in New York City for reasons that weren’t immediately clear. He was seen using suction cups to scale the windows of the building, which is where Donald Trump’s campaign is headquartered. Though at the time of the incident, Trump was at a campaign rally in Virginia.
For nearly three hours emergency responders attempted to talk to the man, but to no avail. They eventually decided to remove some of the windows to corner the man, and force him to give up the climb. The police were hoping that he would eventually tire himself out, and go inside on his own volition.
By the time the man had reached the 21st floor, the police gave up on trying to reason with him, and forcibly pulled him into the building through a window they had removed. He was later seen being taken out of the building on a stretcher.
As for why the man tried to scale the building, the reasons he gave to the police didn’t make much sense. During a press conference, Detective Bill Aubrey of the Manhattan South District said that “What he explained to us is that he wanted a personal meeting with Mr. Trump and he posted a YouTube video on Tuesday. That YouTube video explains that he’s an independent researcher and he wanted to meet with him (Donald Trump) and that’s the reason why he was climbing this building. At no time did he express that he wanted to hurt anybody. His sole intention was to meet with Mr. Trump.”
