Cyprus Bailout: Cash Flown Out To British Troops

The Ministry of Defence are worried that cash machines and debit cards may stop working altogether in the ever worsening financial crisis that is enveloping the island

As banks in Cyprus remain closed until Thursday at the earliest to prevent a run in the wake of the levy savers will be charged, the UK has flown out one million Euros to ensure that service men and women and their families stationed in Cyprus have access to cash.

The Ministry of Defense are worried that cash machines and debit cards may stop working altogether in the ever worsening financial crisis that is enveloping the island. A spokesman for the MOD said:

“The MoD is proactively approaching personnel to ask if they want their March, and future months’ salaries paid into UK bank accounts, rather than Cypriot accounts. We’re determined to do everything we can to minimize the impact of the Cyprus banking crisis on our people.”
