Couple deliberately running teenage boys off the road because of pro-Trump bike flags

An Indiana couple has been charged with deliberately running two teenage boys off the road because of President Trump flags on their bikes.

Police charged Gregory Perry-Jones, 23, and Cailyn Marie Smith, 18, on Thursday for allegedly using their car to force the two twin teenage brothers off the road back in July in Hobart, Indiana.

Videos posted by Perry-Jones and Smith on the social media site Snapchat led to police filing the charges against the couple. While Smith was taken into custody, Perry-Jones remained at large as of Friday, according to the Associated Press.

A police affidavit showed that the couple had driven up next to the 14-year-old boys and asked if they were Trump supporters. When the teens confirmed that they were, the driver then allegedly swerved and attempted to run them off the road, forcing the boys onto roadside grass.

The driver then followed the teens, according to the affidavit, and exited the car to tear off the pro-Trump flag which was attached to one of the bikes with a fishing pole. He then dropped the flag and ran back to his car, “but not before running the flag over,” the probable cause affidavit said.

Police Capt. James Gonzales explained that there was a delay in getting information from Snapchat which led to charges not being filed until Thursday. Perry-Jones and Smith were each charged with two felony counts of intimidation and criminal recklessness and one count each of theft and criminal mischief.

According to AP:

In a video posted to Snapchat, allegedly by the couple of their encounter with the boy, shows “the driver turns the wheel sharply as if he saw the boys and wanted to hit them with the vehicle while yelling ‘ya’ll better get home,’” according to the affidavit. A male’s voice is then heard telling the female passenger “pull that flag down” in the video which shows the female trying to reach it through her window and her saying, “get closer.”

“The female is then heard saying `ya’ll scared, just like your president″ and `America is not great’” followed by an expletive, according to the affidavit.

Perry-Jones allegedly threatened to beat one of the boys up in another Snapchat video and warned, “Don’t let me see you downtown.”

In the video, Perry-Jones threatened he would just say the boys called him a racial slur if police questioned him.

Twitter users condemned the latest in a trend of attacks against Trump supporters.
