Connecticut man indicted for threatening to kill Trump, sending fake anthrax

A white supremacist has been indicted after threatening to kill President Trump and sending letters containing fake anthrax to a synagogue and Islamic center.

Gary Gravelle, 51, also known as Roland Prejean, was indicted in Connecticut federal court Thursday for “threatening to kill, injure and intimidate people and explode property in Connecticut and elsewhere.”

Gravelle was arrested in September 2018 for violating the terms of his release after previously being convicted in 2013 on similar charges related to sending threatening letters.

In his letter to Trump, Gravelle wrote: “I, Gary Gravelle, … as a faithful soldier of the AKA, am coming to KILL Donald Trump …” The letter also contained a white powder. Gravelle is a member of American Knights of Anarchy, a white separatist group.

Gravelle also called and emailed a number of other organizations and entities threatening to detonate explosives — those ranged from local credit unions in New Haven to the Burlington International Airport.

No injuries were reported in relation to the packages and the powder in some of the packages was determined to be baby powder. Gravelle faces a maximum sentence of a 140 years in prison based on the charges in the indictment.

According to the release, U.S. Attorney Durham “stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The release thanked numerous agencies for their help with the investigation.

“The U.S. Attorney extends his appreciation to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, Connecticut State Police, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and many local police and fire departments for their assistance in this matter that directly affected various communities, including departments from Bristol, Guilford, Groton, Hartford, Middletown, New Haven, Old Saybrook and Southington, Yale University, and Burlington, Vermont.”
