Chomp! Great White Shark Bites Underwater Camera (Watch)

How would you like to see that face up close?

Dr. Greg Skomal, a researcher with the Massachusetts Division of Marine and Fisheries, did – he got to meet the shark pictured above while he was out tagging the creatures.

During a regular research trip Monday off Cape Cod, the 12-foot great white shark decided to see what Skomal’s GoPro tasted like.

Footage of the bite was posted online Tuesday afternoon by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.

The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries joked about the encounter in a Facebook post using the hashtags #chomp and #ourcameraisjustfine.

In the video, you can see what the inside of a shark’s mouth looks like – up close.

Skomal told New England Cable News the exploratory bite was “unusual behavior” and the female shark easily could have destroyed the camera, reports the Associated Press.
