Cheney: Our opposition to our ‘socialist colleagues’ has to do ‘with the content of their policies’

Published on

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) criticized Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) over strange comments she made at a left-wing conference about minorities.

Cheney and other Republicans were addressing controversial comments by President Donald Trump in the media briefing Tuesday when she also brought up Pressley’s odd statement.

“Our colleagues are wrong when they tell Americans, as Congresswoman Pressley did just last weekend, that any individual seat at the table is only valuable, only legitimate if that person espouses some pre-approved set of beliefs deemed appropriate based on their religion or their gender or their race,” Cheney said.

“When they say that, that is racist,” she said forcefully.

“So, no,” she concluded. “Our opposition to our socialist colleagues has absolutely nothing to do with their gender, with their religion or with their race. It has to do with the content of their policies.”

What did Pressley say exactly?

The freshman member of Congress was speaking at the progressive Netroots Nation conference when she appeared to say that minority voices were only legitimate when they advocate for left-wing policies.

Pressley opined that minorities needed to have a “seat at the table” when she continued on to the bizarre statement.

“This is the time to shake that table,” she told the Netroots audience.

“We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice,” she added. “We don’t need any more black faces that don’t want to be a black voice.”

Pressley is one of four freshman female members of Congress who openly defied and criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over a border finding bill that they opposed.
