California Woman Shoots Home Invader Armed With Hammer

A woman who said she shot her husband’s cousin when he came into her home in East Bakersfield last Wednesday morning, told 23ABC she has called the police on him before, but this time shooting him was her only option to protect her and her family.

Kern County Sheriff’s Office said that  Andrew Oldham, 33, was armed with a hammer when he entered the home.

Oldham is the women’s husband’s cousin and has apparently been stalking her for some time.

Court documents show that on April 19 the woman filed a restraining order against Oldham after he allegedly harassed her in front of her five children, niece and family friends.

The woman alleges that Oldham started messaging her on Facebook in March but when she asked him to stop he told her, “If you don’t talk to me about it I’m gonna [expletive] explode.” The woman says Oldham then proceeded to accuse her of cheating and when she cut off contact with him he showed up “confessing” his love for her.

The report also says that she told Oldham’s mom about the incident but the mom replied: “He has a gun it can get way worse.”

On Wednesday, the woman and her children were in the home at the time Oldham entered, and investigators said she grabbed a gun and fired once at Oldham after warning him not to enter.

Oldham was taken to a local hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Once he was medically cleared, he was charged with robbery, burglary, child endangerment and assault with a deadly weapon, according to KCSO officials.

Oldham is being held on $100,000 bail and is next due in court July 9, according to court records.
