Brooklyn Neighborhood On Police Lockdown Following Protest

Police intervened when more than a hundred people joined in a candlelit vigil in the East Flatbush neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, where 16-year-old Kimani Gray was shot 11 times by police on Saturday

Twitter is full of Tweets from people in Brooklyn regarding heavy handed policing in the wake of  the shooting of Kimani Grey. People had gathered to march in protest at his death, shot 11 times by police on Saturday. As they marched they chanted:

“NYPD KKK how many kids will you kill today?”

It’s reported that police searched apartments without warrants telling residents they were looking for children who had been throwing stones. New york City Councilman Jumaane D. Snyder said:

“I’m in the middle of my district. Right now things are tense.”

Regarding Greys death police say he pointed a gun at a police car, when they got out to investigate he  “adjusted his belt suspiciously”. Witnesses however say he had no gun and was running for his life when he was shot. After he was hit police allegedly shouted “stay down or we’ll shoot you again”

Although taken to hospital, Grey was dead on arrival. He was sixteen years old.
