A Malaysian airliner has crashed over Eastern Ukraine. Flight MH17, flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was  carrying 295 passengers when it  came down. 100 bodies have so far been recovered and residents around the village of Grabovo describe seeing the remains of many more scattered over a wide area around the village.

“I was working in the field on my tractor when I heard the sound of a plane and then a bang and shots,” a witness called Vladimir told Reuters.

“Then I saw the plane hit the ground and break in two. There was thick black smoke.”

Rebel leaders claim the plane was shot down by Ukrainian airforce fighter jets, but the government denies this, putting the blame firmly on the pro-Russian rebels in the area.
