A Brazilian woman had to be rushed to hospital after becoming hysterical while watching a new horror film. The movie Annabelle: Creation caused the woman so much mental trauma that she actually punched herself in the face.
Annabelle: Creation is the latest in The Conjuring horror franchise. The film, starring Lord of the Rings actress Miranda Otto and Without A Trace‘s Anthony LaPaglia, is a prequel to the 2014 film Annabelle. It tells the tale of how the murderous doll Annabelle came to be possessed by a demon.
Here’s a trailer for the movie. It may not be suitable for all viewers as there are some horrific scenes.
The unnamed 20-year-old woman in question visited a cinema in Teresina, north-east Brazil, for a late-night showing of U.S. film Annabelle: Creation. The woman suffered a strange reaction to the movie. A video filmed on a mobile phone shows the woman lying on the floor of a shopping center outside the cinema. She’s screaming and coughing uncontrollably.
The Brazilian woman had reportedly started acting strangely during the scariest moment of the film, according to an audio message being shared with the video on social networking sites. She says she reacted “at the moment when the devil appeared.” This is leading to talks of possession and exorcism, two topics which have been propelled front and center as of late.
Witnesses of the woman’s odd behavior were quoted as saying:
“When the film ended, we went to pay the car park and she started hitting herself with punches to her own head, and threw herself on the floor. Other people in the shopping center got together to try to control her, I became really scared. A member of staff at the shopping center told Brazil’s UOL website: ‘We haven’t managed to find out exactly what happened or what caused this behavior. What we know is that she was really very nervous and couldn’t herself explain what had happened.”
Apparently, this movie is incredibly terrifying.
